How to layer your clothes on for winter!
If any of yall have ever been blessed enough to know how Texas weather works, getting ready in the morning seems like a chore. In addition to Malak's previous post about her winter obsessions, I have a few tips to share.
I have a classes some days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the weather in that period of time fluctuates like nobody's business. It can be frosty in the morning and by midday it could go up to the 80s and too warm to be wearing what you had on that morning. And if you're like me and you don't have a bulky coat for the wintery mornings, or just feel like utilizing more of what's in your closet, wearing layers is the way to go. You can bundle up in the morning and appropriately shed some layers later on when the day gets warmer.
If you're a hijabi, I'm sure you've already mastered the art of layering clothes! I hope to propose some ideas that could help mix and match items you already have to create new combinations on how to pull new outfits together.
Layer up for warmth
I've been able to survive without a thick coat in the cold weather because a) it doesn't get that cold in Texas and b) when it does or I'm out of the state, I've been able to get by wearing layers on layers on layers. This model is wearing a black leather jacket with a green sweater, blazer, and chunky sweater dress underneath.
This tip is actually handy when the weather gets warmer throughout the day. I like to strip down layers (the halal way) and stuff them in my backpack.
(Actually now that I've taken a good look at the model's jacket, I think that it was made to look layered. But let's pretend that they're separated pieces heh)
Layer up with different textures
Identify your clothing by the different types of materials (leather, knit, woven, silk) and just experiment how each texture looks against one another. Try on combinations of odd colors and fabrics. Mix in some metallics, sparkly sequins, shimmery silk, coarse knits, the possibilities are endless! For example here is a sleek leather top contrastingly worn under a knit sweater.
A method of wearing the same color is to do so in a way where they don't seem similar at all. This second look uses green but in different textures and shades that creates all the difference. Both are layered on top of the camel brown woven shirt underneath that accompanies both greens. The differences in texture adds depth and detail.
Another fun way to include texture to your outfits is to include different accessories.
The fur belt is an interesting detail you can add to a wintery look
And while we're on the subject of Phillip Lim, I wanted to leave this beauty here while I have the chance haha. Full spike studded sleeves. I'm quite the sucker for hardware on clothing. What do yall think??
If I ever had the honor of wearing this, I'd walk around with speakers playing Bill Withers' Lean on Me.
Stay warm this winter!
Leave questions/answers/suggestions and feel free to share what you've come up with!

My winter obsessions.
Hello my beauties! I am here right now to spread my love for these 7 articles of clothing during our wintry weather(: Bismillah here we go!
LEG WARMERS
Sorry for the bad quality! Ok so I am completely in LOVE with leg warmers. They are a little more complicated for Muslimahs to pull off, but I know it can be done. They don't need to be put on all the time with skinny jeans but under long boots like peekaboos.
You can tuck sweatpants into them and pull off a comfy cute look on a lazy day! ( on
the furthest left are the ones I wore for Eid).
SWEATERS

Not just any sweaters, but designing your OWN sweater! My friend Diana made this for me and it says Dope (as in the brand). It is suuuuuper soft and comfy and I really love the Hipsterish look to it. I am all for COMFORT. So this helps you a lot, and being crafty (: Here is a link to where you can get a tutorial to make these! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H_utRjIGsc
BANDANAS

In this photo is all of us with our sweaters and BANDANAS. I have to say this is probably my FAVORITE one. You can kind of see me with mine around my hijab. First, is that this is super comfortable. No hassel with your hijab and it keeps everything in put. Second, You can pull ANY look with it. Biker chic, Chola chica, vintage, hipster, cute, thug,..etc. Third, they are cheap you can get them in so many colors and designs. They are ah-mazing. I assure you will adore them as much as I do.
BEANIE & KNEE HIGH BOOTS
This photo is for both the beanie and boots (I guess the leg warmers too). I always loved beanies and I never knew how to address them with my Hijab.
So I found a oversized crocheted beanie and it worked beautifully. I got this at Forever21 they have like every color you'd imagine so go and stock up! The boots are my favorite in this particular outfit. I got them from Pac Sun which is my favorite store! They aren't being sold anymore ): My sister got them in black too! They are really comfortable. I am like the horse back riding look/ biker chic look. Its very feminine and a lot of different personality for a Hijabi in my opinion. I believe that ever girl should own a pair of knee high boots they really can hide a lot when you top it off with a long blouse. The riding boots don't really elongate the legs (which some consider haram if done), because there isn't really any heel. If you don't have a pair of knee high boots go and get you some, there are a big variety at DSW!
JOHN LENNON SUNGLASSES

I don't have a picture of me wearing mine, but here is Demi lovato (my soul mate) wearing some over sized John lennon sunglasses and I love them. They work on Hijabi's trust me Yassmin pulls them off REAL well. So I guess for this one, is whether you personally have the confidence to wear them. Don't worry you'll look great (;
HAREM PANTS
This is my little sister rocking her harem pants! These can be purchased at Forever21 in the Gothic section I believe. Coming back around to my obsession with comfort these are your number 1 choice for looking stylish and cute with also being over the top comfortable! You can wear them with pumps, oxfords, or knee high boots. I wear these pants ALL the time, with my black knee high boots. They came from the Indian origin and really do click with our culture. I have to say the tops are probably the hardest to deal with in these outfits. Like my sister you can wear a boyfriend blouse, and a blazer. Or for more of a fancier feel maybe a tight fitting long sleeve shirt and a long sleeveless cardigan. Usually the top should be tucked in, but you can do as to your liking. If you are going to one of those Hijabi parties where you can reveal your self -wink wink- then pull the ends up to your knees and knock them off with pumps.
Alright! Here it is. I hope that you all enjoy these as much as I do! If you don't have one of these then go and buy yourself it! They are all easy to wear (: If you have any questions about anything, or need any tips make sure to email coveredgirlislam@gmail.com
Love, Malak the cat.

Hijabi outfit of the day: Navy Blue and Mustard!
As I was throwing on a navy blue sweater for school yesterday morning, I was about to play it safe and stick with a gray hijab (you can never go wrong with blue and gray). Since my grays are placed next to my yellows, I spotted my mustard hijab and VOILA! It was the perfect combination to me.
All dramatic-ness aside, I believe this color combination gives an extremely casual and chill vibe. So I created this outfit:
I love jeans jackets and I LOVE my browns and neutrals. I know it's a little chilly for sandals but hey, substitute it with whatever you want. Nude lipstick and natural, brown eyeshadows give it a perfect, casual touch. Also, notice the feather extension. I wore one on Eid and I thought it looked awesome, far from tacky. Just clip it to the inside of your Hijab :)
And of course, a little Mus7af in your clutch drives the Shaytan away!

How to work out while wearing a hijab.
People always ask me what I do keep myself in shape, how to with
stain my muscle and most of all how do I do it all while wearing a hijab?
Select soccer takes much determination and willing to sacrifice a lot of time
to do so. The same with just working out in general. At the end, I’ll tell you how to do all of
this while wearing the hijab.(:

1.Lifting weights
You don’t want to go over with
this, because if you do you’ll end up looking like the Hulk. But moderation is
the key while lifting weights. Get something you can lift with ease, then add
weight to it moderately, this is to just keep yourself from harming yourself
with some weight that you can’t even withstand with a friend. But with bench
pressing, you MUST MUST MUST have
someone spot you, even if you’re just benching the bar. If that hits your neck,
and no body is around, let’s just stay prepared shall we?

2.Running
Honestly, I know I feel like this sometimes when I run. But, I know Malak
and Dallah are runners so asking them these questions about how to running
would probably be the best thing to do. For I am a noob with long distance
running. I do sprints. SO YEAH. MESSAGE US AND THEY’LL ANSWER IT.(:

3.Soccer
Now, soccer. Yes, that’s me in that picture. Since I play goalie it’s a lot
easier to stay covered and wear the hijab. Honestly, I feel like I was made in
the eyes of Allah (SWT) to play this sport. My body type was MADE to play this position
in soccer. I can’t express how much I truly love this sport. I’d go to the end
of the Earths to play it. I guess that’s what it really takes to play an
intense sport but keep on your hijab. Determination. Endurance. Respect for
yourself and your religion. I love wearing the hijab as much as I love playing
soccer, so why can’t I combine to two? If you play a different position, or a
different sport, Under Armor shirts will be your best friends while playing a
sport. They’re very simply to just slip under you team jersey and not get too
hot. Also, wearing black tights under your team shorts will help with that as
well. I’m not going to lie, it gets hot. But, if you’re playing a contact
sport or you're working out, and you’re not getting hot no matter what you’re wearing, you’re not doing it right. Or it’s cold outside. Either way, don’t try to make wearing a
hijab an excuse to not work out, play a sport, or so what you love. Because, it
doesn’t stop you. You stop yourself, and don't make the mistake of giving up something you love for another.

I hate the "fake friends" stigma.
Sometimes I get so sick of
the way the meaning of friendship has cheapened recently. Every television
show/movie features friends who backstab each other and focus mostly on the
romantic and sexual relationships. It’s pretty much the era of relationships- it
seems no book, movie, television show, or whatever else can be successful
without it.
But what about friendship?
And I don’t mean the crappy friendship they show on Glee (sorry, I love Glee,
but the friendship theme on that show sucks), but the real, true friendship. Think
about it- when you think of a group of girl friends, don’t you imagine snobby,
giggly, and fake girls? Media portrayed us this way, for some dumb reason. Guys
have it better.
Either that or you see
movies all about how the friends influenced the main character to do something
wrong, and plainly, our parents haven’t helped. They talk all day about
avoiding bad influences but never discuss how much a good influence can help
you. No wonder we’re all super suspicious of one another.
(random picture I found funny)
I said all that to say this-
it shouldn’t be that way. The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) himself had many close
and true friendships, friendships that have meaning, trust, and love.
One of the many hadith about
friendship includes:
Anas
(RAA) said that a man was with the Prophet (PBUH), when another man passed by.
The first man said, "O Messenger of Allah (SWT), indeed I truly love this
man." The Prophet (PBUH) asked him, "Have you let him know
that?" He said, "No." The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Tell
him." He caught up with him and told him, "Truly I love you for the
sake of Allah (SWT)," and the man said, "May Allah (SWT) love you who
loves me for His sake."
When
was the last time you truly told your best friend how thankful you were for
her? In Islam we’re supposed to show each other, as this hadith implies.
Friendship is truly one of the most awesome blessings. You don’t owe each other
anything like you do with family and your spouse, yet you give each other all
you have. It’s honestly a miracle to me, Subhanallah.
I’m
glad things like Harry Potter brought back the meaning of friendship to an
extent. I mean (SPOILER), Harry freakin almost dies to save his friends. And
then we have books like Twilight where Bella ditches her friends and family for
a freakin sparkly boy. Urgh.
As
cheesy as it sounds, I thank God for my friends everyday. We all should. They’ve
helped me when no one else would, just by being there to take my mind off of
things. They’re there when I’m not in the mood to be preached by my parents- or
judged. I’m sure all of you have someone like them who you might have been
taking for granted. They’re blessings. Remember that.
And to my friends who are
reading this- you're welcome. I really wish I could have a camera for my next
birthday. Just saying.

10 Makeup Mistakes!
We are all guilty of over doing our makeup, and doing it wrong. It’s a mistake and we have all done it sometime or another! These are 10 of the makeup mistakes we tend to do and this is just to help us keep in mind things to avoid while doing our makeup!
1. Mismatched face and neck!

For most of us hijabis this shouldn’t be too much of a problem because no one sees our neck! But when we go to our awesome hijabi parties we need to remember this tip. This is a result of too light of a foundation. It is hard to notice if your foundation color is perfect for your skin tone in artificial light. Try getting in some sunlight and then making sure that your foundation color matches your skin. Also when blending your foundation, blend down your neck to make sure your face and neck are the same color!
2. Overdrawn eyebrows!

If your eyebrows are sparse or very light or super thin, then you can fill them in with an eyebrow pencil, BUT be careful how you use it. Apply it in short strokes where the sparse hair is. Or use a brow powder with an angled brush. Again apply it in short strokes to make it look natural like hair. Also little tip when choosing an eyebrow color: if your hair is light then choose a shade 2 shades darker than your hair. If your hair is dark then choose a shade 1-2 shades lighter than your hair.
3. Dark lip liner & light lipstick!
I know some of your mothers might think this is the hottest trend out, but this is something that should have stayed in the 80’s so let’s not bring it back. Choose a lip liner that is close to your lip shade, and fill in your lips with this color also (this will also allow your lip color to stay on longer) over this add your favorite lip gloss or lipstick (not in a much darker shade than the lip liner). If you do want a darker lip, then use a darker lip liner, use it also to completely fill in your lips and top it off with a lipstick of the same shade as the lip liner.
4. Clumpy lashes!
First easy way to get rid of clumps is throw away old mascaras! Old mascaras and grow bacteria and start getting clumpy. If you want to apply 2 coats of mascara, then do so quickly, because once the first coat dries, the second coat will make it look clumpy. Last tip to avoid clumps, is when you pull out the wand from a mascara tube, scrape the excess off the end of the tube, so you don’t apply too much.
5. 80’s eyes!
One single eye shadow shade should never go all the way up to your brow! If you love blue eye shadow, then wear it in moderation. You can wear it on the outer part of the eye, but not all over. You could also put it all over the lid and add a neutral shade in the crease! Choosing different shades of blue could also work; just remember not to go all the way to your brow!
6. Over bronzed goddess!
First of all do not ever EVER apply bronzer all over your face! This will not make you look like a beautiful golden goddess! Only apply bronzer under the check bones and a little on your forehead. Also use a bronzer that isn’t too much darker than your skin, and using a matte bronzer will work much better than a over powering shimmery one.
7. Clown blush!
8. Cakey face!
This is a huge one because I see it happen all the time! The first thing to remember is that foundation is not to cover blemishes or under eye circles! That’s what concealer is for! Apply only a thin layer of your foundation and then after that use a little bit of concealer for spot blemishes and under the eyes. Do not use too much concealer! The other thing that can cause a cakey face is applying too much powder. Yes powder is amazing, but too much of a good thing is never good! When applying powder to set the makeup, do not apply too much. Apply only to areas where you need it, like the t-zone (nose, chin, and forehead). If your skin is dry you may not need to apply powder at all!
9. Lipstick teeth!
After you apply your lipstick, stick a clean finger in your mouth, close your lips around it and pull your finger out. This will remove the lipstick on the inner part of your lips that would rub off on your teeth.
10. Under eye concealer!

Salaam Girls!
Here at Covered Girl we are all about fashion and style. So I thought why not start off with the basic element of fashion. If there is one thing I truly believe it is that clothing and makeup are all illusions! You can change how you look so easily by a few tricks and enhancing your already natural beauty. I will be tackling the clothing aspect, Inshallah! Clothing fashion is one of those things were we are constantly having to align attire with the restrictions of Islam and may sometimes be exasperated because it seems like it is impossible to dress modest some days while still looking stylish. Stress not! There are many fashion tools out there to still work for your body as well as accomplish the look you are aiming for.
So, the first step in clothing is simply understanding your body shape. By figuring out what shape best describes yours you can learn what to wear or avoid in order to best flatter your unique body shape.
"Accentuate your best features and disguise what you are not so happy with. Choose outfits that fit and make you look comfortable rather than those that are up-to-the-minute." -Giorgio Armani
Remember those links are just guidelines, so your individual style can always be tailored to the beauty of your individual body. When it comes to pear or hourglass shapes I have more experience in that department. As a pear/hourglass (depending on the days of the week haha), I have a bad habit of wearing really loose boxy shaped shirts in an attempt to cover my lower half. Anyone trying to cover there bottom half while not turning into a rectangle needs to cinch the waist with a blazer or belt. Below are a couple outfit ideas.
One look I have grown to completely love is dresses with belts or blazers. For a triangle/pear shape or hourglass I would experiment with thicker belts since they draw more attention to the waist. Outfits like this gives you that long thin align affect as well as extra attention to the waist without dressing too tight, while also covering your bottom half. For a rectangle body shape a top with more volume in the shoulders and chest would be more suitable.
This look is just beautiful! A smaller blazer to cinch at the waist would work better for triangle/pear and hourglass body types by enhancing their small waist. For rectangle body shapes a smaller blazer would have created the appearance of fuller hips. This also works for circle shapes since it has a concealing effect for the midsection.

I hope you liked this little post! Let me know if you would like more! Talk to you later loves!
My biggest tip is!!! Always be adventurous. One thing I have learned when it comes to fashion, is sometimes what you visualize looking terrible on you actually looks the best. So dont be afraid everyonce in a while to atleast try a few different cuts, lengths, patterns, and materials or clothing. Tailor your clothing to fit the guidlines of Islam and your comfort.
