DIY Jewelry Organization

Okay girls, so a couple months ago I got a bunch of jewelry as gifts and I honestly couldn’t figure out what to do with most of it.. since I always forget to wear jewelry since it is usually inside my jewelry vanity. Although it may organize jewelry I feel that it is better for storing things that you don’t usually wear, because you cant openly see anything unless you go through the hassle of opening all of the drawers and digging through everything. So, I began a search for organizing it all in a way were everything will be readily accessible for my sisters and I while getting dressed. We all share jewelry but keep it in my room so I end up having to clean that all up haha After some brainstorming I decided to try out a plywood board. When looking online later I found a cuter way to do this but I was in such a hurry when cleaning my room that I just kept mine simple. You can decorate your jewelry board however you want. Basically, there are a couple of ways to make a jewelry board. Look for random items that have holes, hooks and mesh which will be easy to hook jewelry onto. Below is my set up:

So basically what I did was grab two ply wood boards from my garage, some nails or assorted sizes, and a hammer. Space the nails around the board in what ever way you think will fit the most accessories. Larger nails can be used as hooks for large bracelets or sets of bangles and small nails as hooks for necklaces. Unused bracelets can also be organized on candlesticks.
Most of my earings are hung from a mesh aluminum foil craft thing that I randomly found and has plenty of holes for hooking the earings into. Rings can be stored inside little clear boxes or on plastic hands that you can get from ross.
If you want to get more crafy with the design of your jewelry board buy a used large picture frame with a boarder you like and remove the glass, remove the backing and glue it on to or around your plywood board/cork board which you can spray paint a color you like or cover in a creative fabric. There are many different options for making your board, such as a pegboard base and also tiny decorative knobs instead of nails, so just be creative, and work with what you have! If you want s suuupppeerrr easy way to do it. Just get a normal cork board from walmart, insert the pushpins and hang all your earrings on that!
Here are some images of how people organized their boards:

How to prepare your personal New years resolution!

The one way I know what my New years resolution is going to be the next upcoming year is when I look back in to the past year and realize how much I didn't get done that I wanted. Which is a really good start for getting your resolution up and running. It is OK to have more then one resolution, but don't overwhelm your self!

You may come up with lets say 12 major things you wanna fix up in your life style and/or achieve. Try and narrow that down in to 3 categories, because I know when I list down everything I want to achieve I freak out when I see all I have to do and end up getting like 2 of those done. Hahah It's a lot to do and we want to make it as easy as possible.
DON'T BE DISCOURAGED. For whatever it maybe you can do it! The human mind is so amazing and can do so much, and you don't even know how much you can achieve. For no reason should you feel like you can't lose that weight or you can't get straight A's. My new years resolution 2 years ago was to lose weight. I lost 25 pounds! (but gained it all back :P lol) Last year my New Years resolution was to be a vegetarian I was for half a year until I learned it wasn't good for my health.
I guess now this year my New years resolution is to actually think up one lol.
Good luck to everyone!

Outfit of the Day- Astrid

Blazer: Forever 21
Black maxi dress: Target
Accessories: Gold belt
dark brown cashmere scarf

Wore this to a graduation party today and quite honestly been waiting for an occasion to wear this outfit haha. I usually don't like overly dressy outfits and so I like how the color of this blazer makes it look a bit casual. I think I have a different favorite color every season. During the spring/summer it was yellow and now it's intense, deeper hues inspired by the reds and oranges of fall leaves.

Now that it's colder I've started to wear thicker scarves (like pashminas, cotton, cashmere, etc. I usually wear the really thin sheer ones in the summer) and here's my favorite this season: a bright red-orange cotton scarf. P.s I don't always sit in car seats, this was just the best picture I could find haha

So what's your favorite color this season?

Tips for styling your hijab according to your face shape

So we all have those moments when experimenting with hijab styles where we just end up getting frustrated. This could be because the style isn't very flattering for your face. Soooo how do we address this issue? Just like when dressing yourself, you should consider your body shape, as I lightly addressed in my first post. Everyone’s face has unique geometry and certain cuts and patterns tend to be more flattering. So Inshallah I will try to give some tips and everyone is welcome to give their own advice! There are two options to this process, you can either get all mathy and follow the measurements! Or you can look at the deciding portion of the post where you can look at the images and guesstimate ;) In the end its all about your unique hijab style and what you are most comfortable in. This is just something I know I have wondered about because some of the popular hijab styles with other girls don’t always work for me.

Measuring:
In front of a mirror, using a tape measure, measure across the top of your cheekbones from the corner end of one eyes to the corner end of the other, making sure to have a straight line across the bridge of the nose. Record.
Then make a measurement of your jaw line, start from one side of your jaw at the base near your ear all the way to the middle of the chin, while keeping the measuring tape flat on the face. Multiply this number by two and record.
When measuring the forehead place the measuring tape on the widest are of it, midway between your eyebrows. Then wrap the measuring tape around your head until the other end of the measuring tape connects with the point on the opposite side of your head. Record
Finally, measure the length of your face. Start at the middle of your hairline and measure down your face, and nose, to the end of your chin. Record.

Deciding:
Round: Face width equal or close to length.
Oblong: Face is longer than it is wide.
Square: Face width is equal to length but with a more angled shape.
Oval shape: Face length is equal to 1 ½ of the width.
Heart: Narrow jaw with wide cheek bones and/or forehead.
Diamond: Widest part of face is cheekbones, balanced with narrow forehead and jaw line with approximately equal widths.
For a round shaped face you may want to try styles that narrow the sides of your face and should show more of your forehead. If you feel that your cheeks get pushed out too much with a tight fitting hijab try a loose or draping hijab.

Avoid this:

 Try this:

For an oblong shape wear under caps that shorten you face and show more of your cheeks. So narrow your face while avoiding Turkish style hijabs. Only half of your forehead should show by allowing the under piece to cover half. The angle of the hijab draping may also extenuate your nice jaw line.
Avoid:

Try:

For a square shape try a more rounded style hijab shape, such as Kuwaiti style instead of Amira’s. Avoid wearing tight Amiras or any style that pins tightly under their chin, such as the Turkish style, that leaves your jaw pushed out. Those styles will make the jawline look masculine. What you want to do is frame your chin and the sides of your jawline into a more rounded/oval appearance, you also may want to expose more of the forehead (shorter or no bottom piece) and cheekbones.

Avoid:

Try:

For an oval shape Malaysian, tight Turkish style, or regular pashmina wraps all look beautiful and hijab show more of your forehead.
Avoid:

Try:

For a heart shaped face, try wearing a scarf that exposes more of the top of your forehead but not the sides and allow for the hijab to wrap outside the angle of your jawline. Another loose fitting hijab may also be added to soften and contrast a sharper chin.

Try:

For a diamond shaped face, do not try to cover up the soft angles of your face. Instead wear a hijab that is simply wrapped.
