Disney Pixar's Brave

Merida: Legend of the Highlands

We have typical princesses on one hand, and we have "Princess" Merida,on the other. Disney Pixar is releasing the movie, "Brave" this summer, which is set in Scotland, in a rugged, mythical time. Merida, makes a reckless choice, causing unintended peril and must set things straight depending on her bravery and archery skills.

From the start of the trailer Merida is defintely a non-traditional Princess. She looks interesting with fire red curly hair and wide oval shaped face, not a typical Disney princess look what so ever.

I don't know about you all, but every time Merida is wielding her bow and arrow in the trailer I feel a resemblance to the character Katniss, from the Hunger Games.

Merida's personality seems stubborn and free-willed, a little bit of the Disney princess stubborness I guess. She speaks of wanting to earn her freedom. Princess Jasmin spoke of that, yet her story definetly pushed towards love as a solution, just as the other Disney Princesses did. Merida seems so strong willed that I expect her to act impulsively and then probably learn a big moral lesson by the end of the movie. So, she probably wont be a damsel in distress, but instead play the brave role of being a hero. If she does end up having a love interest, which I still doubt, I would expect it to be more of a relation ship like Hiccup and Astrid's in, How to Train Your Dragon.

As for Merida's dad he seems to be a big teddy bear and laid back and has a really cool relationship with her. He kinda reminds me of Stoik the Vast, (Hiccup's dad) in How to Train Your Dragon. Her mother seems to be more traditional and expects more "lady like" behaviors.

I remember when I saw the teaser trailer I didn't think much of the movie. But after seeing, "The Prize," I am a bit interested. I wonder how the story is gonna play out. It kinda reminds me of the movie, Quest for Camelot. Now that's an old movie haha. I hope she is a strong female role and maybe even a little inspirational to some young girls. I don't see anything wrong with liking Princess movies but some change would be really awesome. Give us some girls with brains! haha Every Disney Princess has a heart for loving, I just hope this girl has some extra brains for thinking haha

Keep me updated with what you think! Will you be seeing this film?
